If you sell a product online, you should rely on affiliate programs. With these programs, you partner with other internet users. They help you increase sales. At the same time, they make money. What could be better than a partnership where everyone involved profits? Not much.

   

 

If you run an affiliate program, you want to make sure your affiliates are motivated. Yes, they should already be. The number of sales they generate is directly related to the money they make, through commission. With that said, you may be surprised how many of your affiliates don’t put forth an extra effort. These individuals may not market or advertise their own website, do not have yours banners in a good location, and so forth. It is important to provide them with motivation.

Not only is it important to provide your underperforming affiliates with motivation, but your top performers too. Earning a lot of money is nice, but it can get boring. Give your top performing affiliates new goals to reach. Keep them active and interested in your affiliate program. After all, they generate the most income for you.

So, what are good sources of motivation?

Contests. If you want to improve the performance of your affiliates, you can’t go wrong with a contest. Be sure to have good prizes on hand, like $50 or a new laptop computer. With contests, you not only have freedom to choose the prize, but the terms of the contest too. For example, you can reward your top performing affiliates, your most improved affiliates, the affiliates most active in your messages boards, and so forth. Your options are endless. Anything related to your affiliate program can be transformed into a contest.

Increased commission levels. As with contents, you have different choices with increased commission levels. Do you want to keep your top performers happy and active in your program? Create stages they can meet. For example, for every $10,000 your affiliates generate in sales, increase their commission one or two percent. You also have the option to temporarily increase commissions. This is great during the holidays. The months leading up to Christmas are the best time to sell a product and the time in which your affiliates could use the extra money.

A notable mentioned. It is no doubt that most affiliates would prefer compensation over a notable mention, but it does work. Do you have a top performing affiliate who always generates a lot of sales? Make sure they are recognized for their work. Mention their name and provide a link to their website on your affiliate program website, on your message boards, or in a monthly newsletter. Not only will the featured affiliate feel pride, it will motivate others and they can follow his or her examples.

Offer free resource guides for your affiliates. The thing about affiliate programs is that many new affiliates underestimate the work involved. You must do more than just toss a few coded links or banners on a website. That website needs to be promoted and ad placement is important. Once some new affiliates realize this, they head for the hills. Make sure your new affiliates know that work is involved to become a top earner, but show them that work is simple. Have resource guides available for internet marketing, online sales, and networking. When your affiliates have step-by-step guides to follow, it doesn’t seem so hard to make money.

The above mentioned ideas are just a few of the many ways that you can motivate your affiliates. Remember, motivation is important. Yes, your products will sell on their own, but affiliate programs provide a boost in sales. That boost means more money for you, so start motivating your affiliates, especially the underperformers, today.

You rely on your affiliates to generate interest and sales. Unfortunately, not everyone puts forth the same effort. That is why bonuses are a great idea. When properly implemented, bonuses for affiliates can reward your top performers and motivate your underperformers to improve.

As previously stated, bonuses provide a source of motivation for all affiliates. They also reward your top earnings. This is very important. Just because an affiliate applies to your program and you give them access to coded banners and links, it does not mean they will use them. Many affiliate program members are technically active, but actually inactive. You don’t necessarily want to give up hope on these individuals, as they can make both you and them money, but they need motivation. That motivation can come from additional compensation earned as a bonus.

As for why it is important to reward your top performing affiliates with bonuses, you want them to stay happy. These individuals generate the most sales for you. Overtime, they will expect some type of increase, like permanent commission increases. If you don’t want to take this big step, a year-end bonus may keep your affiliates satisfied. Remember, your top performers are not people you want to lose. If they leave the program, they take the sales they generate right along with them.

Now that you know the importance of rewarding your affiliates with bonuses, what type of bonuses can you offer? This is what is great, anything. You are in control. If you are looking for a few sample ideas, please continue reading on.

A year-end bonus. As previously stated, year-end bonuses can keep top performing affiliates held over. They would likely prefer a set commission increase, but at least they get extra money. If you opt for a year-end bonus, base your decision on performance. Do not give everyone a bonus or the same amount. For example, don’t give your inactive members a bonus if they don’t have any links to your website. Do not give an underperforming a $500 year-end bonus if they haven’t generated more than $200 in sales. Ensure your bonuses are enough to keep your affiliates happy, but that you don’t lose money too.

An increase in commissions. Although most individuals would consider an increase in commission a pay raise, it can fall into the category of bonuses. Once again, you want to use affiliate bonuses to motivate your underperformers and keep your top earners happy. For that reason, set a specific level in which commission will be raised. For example, an affiliate’s commission can increase to 4% once they reach $2,000 in sales. Next, that rate can increase to 5% once they reach $4,000 in sales, and so forth.

A temporary increase in commissions. If your main goal is to motivate your affiliates to try harder, a temporary commission increase is best. This just may get those individuals who have yet to place links to do so. Since these types of bonuses are only temporary, make it worth it. Instead of raising your affiliates’ commission only 1% during the month of December opt for a 2 or 3% increase. Yes, you have to payout more, but it is only temporary and only when sales result.

In short, bonuses serve as motivation for underperforming affiliates and a reward for your top performers. If you operate an affiliate program and have yet to dispense bonuses, try it.
